Samsung's annual S-series flagships compete each year with the Google Pixel lineup as the king of Android phones. 1 Enjoy Android and Galaxy apps
Samsung phones can access Android apps through the Google Play Store and access Samsung apps through the Galaxy Store. The Google Play Store offers a much wider range of apps than the Galaxy Store and is available on all Android devices. The Galaxy Store is only available on Samsung devices, but it has some exclusive apps that the Play Store cannot access. It also comes with themes that can change the look of your phone. Using both app stores gives you access to a wider variety of apps than your typical Android phone, so take advantage of that. To access any app, find the appropriate app in the app drawer.

Widgets have become a popular feature on phones again and Samsung has made them even better. They have a feature called Widget Stacks which is similar to Apple's widget stacks. This feature allows you to stack widgets on the same screen area so that they don't take up much screen space. Swipe left and right to cycle through the different widgets in the stack. The One UI launcher also tries to move widgets to the top of the stack to provide the most relevant information.
To create a stack of widgets on your new Galaxy device, touch and hold the home screen until the main menu appears. craneWidgetsat the bottom and select the widget you want to add to your home screen. After adding this widget, long press on it. When the edit menu appears, tapmake a stackand select the widgets you want to add to your stack. Some new widgets are included in Samsung's Android 13 One UI 5.1 release, so be sure to check them out.
3 Add widgets to your lock screen
You can not only create stacks of widgets, but also add them to the lock screen. This allows you to access information even without opening your phone. Go to to edit these widgetsinstitutions, to electekran blockadeand touchWidgetsimage. Here you can switch between the widgets you want to see, including Music, Weather, Digital Wellbeing and more. You can also change the order in which they appear on the lock screen by tappingtransformin the upper right corner. 4 Use the always-on display to always see what's happening
It can be useful to check the time or notifications while looking at your phone, even if it's locked and away from you. To make this possible, Samsung has added an always-on display to the S23 line-up. To access thisinstitutionsrequest, go toekran blockadesettings and tapalways on display. Here you can enable or disable it, change when it appears and how it looks.
5 Color the user interface
The Ty material, which matches the colors of UI elements on the phone, came with the release of Android 12. This feature was first available on Google Pixel phones, but now Samsung is incorporating it into its software. To use this feature, go to the home screen and hold it until the main menu appears. then touchwallpaper and stylein the lower left corner and selectColor palettefrom the available options. Finally, activate the color palette option and select the desired background colors. To create compatible app icons in the app drawer and home screen, use the same color palette and enableApply the palette to application iconschoice. 6 Use the Bixby text call to see if you're getting a spam call
Google has a great feature called Call Filtering that allows the Google Assistant to talk to callers to see who they are. Because this feature is so popular, Samsung decided to make its own version in One UI 5.1 called Bixby Text Call. To enable this new feature, open the filetelephoneapplication, tapthree pointsin the top right corner and selectinstitutions. Then tapbixby text calloption and activate it.

Now that the feature is enabled, tap the icon each time you get a callBixby text call buttonso Bixby can talk to the caller. This feature beats out Google's call detection feature, as you can type what Bixby tells the caller instead of just pre-written prompts. You can also customize Bixby Quick Replies by tapping the iconHe answers quicklyin Bixby settings for text calls.
7 Enhance your video calls with effects
Video calls are now a common way of communicating that make you feel more connected to the person you are talking to. To make video calls run as smoothly as possible, Samsung has included video call effects in the S23 line to enhance your calls. Open the file to find these featuresinstitutionsapp, scroll down and tapAdvanced features. When you get there, tapeffects for video callsto activate the function and check the included functions. Here you can choose a background color or add a background image for your appointments. You will also see a list of apps that support video call effects. To access all other features, you must join the video call using a compatible app. Upon entering, there's an effects button to blur the background, focus on yourself, and more.

8 Protect your eyes and your battery with dark mode
Having a bright, mostly white phone screen can hurt your eyes when night falls. That's where dark mode comes in. In dark mode, the bright white elements of the phone's user interface turn black. This helps protect your eyes, as bright light can be dazzling when looking at your phone. It also saves battery life because AMOLED screens turn off individual pixels when they go black, meaning less battery is used to power the screen.

Go to to access dark modeinstitutionsapplication and tapTo show. Here you can select dark mode at the top if you always want it. If you only want it during certain hours, tap the buttonDark mode settingsoption and touchTurn on as scheduledlever. 9 Change the functionality of the side keys
Most call it the power button, but Samsung likes to call it the side key. Anyway, the button on the phone is not a volume control and you can adjust its operation on the S23 line. Out of the box, holding it launches Bixby, most people's least favorite virtual assistant. If you want to press and hold the side key to turn off your phone, you can do that. There you can choose what happens when you double-press and hold the side key, such as creating a shortcut for camera access.

10 Rearrange the quick settings menu
This is good advice for the Samsung Galaxy S23 line and all Android phones. You may have seen a list of buttons called quick menus that you can find by swiping down when the notification shade is open. Here you can quickly access frequently used settings and functions, such as switching between Wi-Fi, accessing Bluetooth devices and turning your phone into a wireless charger with Wireless Power Sharing. To customize this menu, swipe down twice on the home screen to display the full quick settings menu. Then tapthree pointsin the top right corner and selectedit buttons.

At the top of the screen, you'll see a list of buttons that aren't in the Quick Settings menu. Just hold and drag them where you want in the quick settings. To move a button in the quick settings menu, press and hold it and move it to the desired location. To remove a button, hold it down and move it to the top of the screen. The first six buttons on the first screen appear when you pull down the notification shade, so be sure to put the most important buttons first.
11 Take advantage of Samsung's great camera and photo editing features
The Samsung Camera app is packed with features to make your photos and videos the best they can be. Open the file to access this settingCameraapplication and tapSprocket iconin the top left corner to open the settings menu. Here you will find all the camera settings offered by Samsung with different modes and customization options, including:
- scene optimization: Light up your photos. There is also a setting for scanning documents and text.
- Shoot suggestions: Get tips to take the best photo.
- Scan de QR-codes: Scan QR codes with the camera.
- Watermark: Add a customizable watermark to your photos.
- video stabilization: Make your videos more stable.
- Automatic frame rate: Automatically adjusts the frame rate while recording to record clearer videos in low light conditions.
- tracking autofocus: Focus on the subject even if it moves within the frame.
There are more settings than these, including some advanced settings, so take a look and decide which ones are best for you.

There are several options after taking a photoSamsung galleryan app that makes your photos even better. Select an image and tap the buttonpencil iconto edit your photo. You can do things like rotate the image, apply a filter to it, or crop it, but there are also more advanced features.
One of the most useful is Object Eraser, similar to the Google Magic Eraser feature that helps you remove unwanted elements from your photos. Select a function and circle or swipe the item you want to delete. Another feature worth checking out is image cropping, which lets you remove the subject from your photos and save it as a separate image or emoji to use in your conversations. This feature is similar to one introduced by Apple in iOS 16. To use it, open a photo in the Gallery app and long-press on the subject. You will see some circles and then an object will appear with which you can remove it from the photo. Combining these camera and photo editing features will give you great photos that you can share with anyone.
12 Ultra users have the S Pen stylus
If you have a Galaxy S23 Ultra, your phone has a built-in S Pen. You can use the S Pen for many things, but the simplest app is to use it to navigate your phone without leaving your fingerprints on the screen. You can also use it for more productive tasks by tapping Air Command's floating menu icon on the right when the pen is out of the silo. Here you can write and edit notes, send live messages to others and take screenshots.
